Day 6....."Breakfast at a Bed&Breakfast"

Last night was my first time staying at a Bed & Breakfast. It was very nice! It's basically the same as a small hotel/inn, except that you're in a house and everyone is much more social. And the breakfast is delicious :-) The owner, Tom had checked us in last night, and this morning his wife, Kathy cooked us this really great breakfast (eggs, sausage, fruit, and muffins). At the table we met this retired couple, Roy and Holly, who had lived in California for 30 years (San Francisco). They recently moved to Colorado Springs, CO and couldn't be happier. They spend their retired years traveling and taking care of their animals :-) I'd like that kind of retirement! They had some great encouragement for my move to LA. Holly had moved from DC to San Francisco many years ago....

We had so much fun talking and such that we got a late start. About 9:30 am Mountain Time. We're making some amazing time tho. We're on a main highway (I-80) today so the view isn't as interesting as yesterday, and there are so many cars I wouldn't have time to look anyway. We saw your basic desert rocks in brilliant reds and sheet-white.
We did stop in Rawlings, WY to see the old Wyoming Pen. and just got back on the road after seeing Ft. Bridger in Bridger, WY. Ft. Bridger used to be an old trading post that was situated perfectly on the Oregon, California, and Colorado Trails of the pioneers. Kath pointed out the Mr. Bridger was like the Microsoft of the 1830's...he had the monopoly on the west. Both were great sites, but too big to do properly in the short time we had.

Kath is currently driving and we're grooving to "Flathead" by The Fratellis ;-D We're almost to Utah, we'll stop in Salt Lake City and then we just made reservations for a Best Western room in Cedar City, UT. God bless AAA!

Alright, it's 8:10 p.m. now and we are on the long stretch to reach our hotel for the night. We stopped in salt Lake to see the Mormon Temple and were duly impressed ;-) The architecture is amazingly beautiful and we learned a lot about Mormon history. Like that it was founded by their prophet Joseph Smith in New York City in the early 1800's. Our tour was lead by two very nice young ladies, Sister Huber from Switzerland and Sister Lai from Singapore. All the tour guide sisters were from foreign counties, fulfilling their 18 months of community service for their religion. I'm really glad we stopped now. When Kath had mentioned it, I thought it was just a few statues or something. But this was an entire city square dedicated to Mormonism. A highly recommended side trip.

We're driving down Rte. 15 S now. We had asked a lady in Salt Lake how far it was to Cedar City and she estimated about 1.5-2 hours. We called our hotel to check this and it's more like 4 hours :-0 We're making good time tho and Kath is persevering. She kinda jinxed it when she said we hadn't traveled enough miles for the day ;-p

You can tell that this part of Utah gets quite a bit of water. Everything is very green and the hills are more gently rolling as opposed to the harsh red-rock faces from Northern Utah. We're enjoying the sunset now and hope to see some stars here soon (this is the first day without rain clouds and we can see the sky!!!)

Ooooooo...another fun car story to share. We stopped to fill up on gas and I noticed we needed to fill the oil. I take the oil cap off, but because it is so hot, I drop the cap down into the bottom of the car. It's stuck on the sheild that protects my cars underbelly, and no way to reach it. The gas station attendent is no help, so Kath fashions a hanger into a hook. She tries without sucess to fish the cap out. I take a turn and get it on the first try :-p

We've finally made it to our hotel. It's 11:30 p.m. and we've got an early morning tomorrow :-/ Turns out the hotel knew about us coming because we had reserved the hotel this afternoon via AAA. Well, the AAA lady who took our information didn't know if we were going to the Cedar City here in Utah, or the Cedar City in Texas :-) Apparently, she had been calling and checking with the hotels to make sure we got a room. Wish we could remember her name so we can call her back and thank her.

P.S. If the jumping around of this blog confuses you, it's because I've written this in several parts throughout the day (I <3 Stickies).
